How to write an obituary

An obituary is written for two functions:
To notify friends and family of the life of the deceased
To give details of the funeral service and how to donate.

Many people find writing their obituary before they pass away is more effective and doesn't burden their loved on with the responsibility. There are also other reasons:

The loved one writing the obituary might not know specific dates in the deceased's life
The person writing the obituary might not know the spellings of certain names.
They might not know the memberships of the deceased's organisations and groups

When writing an obituary for yourself or a loved one take into consideration:

Important dates in the deceased's/your life. i.e. birth, death, marriage, graduation, etc.
Important places in their life e.g. home town, university, what the deceased did for a living
Important people in their life i.e. partner, children, brothers, sisters, friends + any other relatives.
The personality i.e. Kind and loving, opinionated, gentle, quiet.
Service information and clergy details. I.e. when the funeral is?, where?, who's invited?
Donations - where should all donations go. (usually a charity asscociated with the deceased)
